The Legacy Resort, Phoenix, Arizona

The Legacy Golf Resort, Phoenix, Arizona, was the site of the 2000 LPGA Standard Register Ping tournament. Since then it has become one of the Southwest’s premier golf resorts, and its close proximity to Phoenix Sky Harbor International Airport, downtown Phoenix, and the Valley's major sporting venues, make it the perfect location for a family vacation, business trip, or weekend getaway.

Aside from the magnificent golf course, Legacy offers a range of top-class amenities, including a sparkling pool, deluxe health club and an endless variety of recreational activities. The resort’s 328 luxury guest suites, housed in 12 separate buildings, are decorated in Spanish mission-style with rich wood cabinetry and each suite features a full kitchen or kitchenette, spacious living area, and either a balcony or patio overlooking lush tropical courtyards and spectacular mountain views.

The Legacy Golf Resort is located on what was once Dwight B. Heard's 7,500-acre ranch. The resort is rich in heritage and history and the designers have preserved and integrated many of the structures and monuments, thus giving its 18-hole championship golf course a unique look and an added opportunity to experience some of Arizona’s history and the Heard legacy from which the resort takes its name.

The Course:
Designed by renowned golf course architect Gary Panks, The Legacy Golf course features lush green fairways, somewhat forgiving rough, stratigically-placed hazards, and well-maintained greens that offer a challenge for golfers of all skill levels. Panks has made extensive use of the rolling terrain, indigenous grasses, flowers, shrubs and trees that surround the course, along with some of the most spectacular views of Camelback Mountain, Squaw Peak and the downtown Phoenix skyline. At 6,908 yards, and par 71, Legacy is not the one of the longest courses in the greater Phoenix area; it is, however, one of the most enjoyable and offers a unique challenge.

Another unique offering is the Legacy Golf Resort’s Kinetic Golf Academy, where you can take advantage of a full-service practice facility, corporate tournament coordination, as well as private and group instruction. Well known LPGA professionals Lynn Marriott and Pia Nilsson offer private instruction, personalized coaching and coaching seminars. Both Lynn and Pia were included in Golf Magazine's exclusive "Top 100 instructors,” and Lynn is consistently ranked among Golf Digest's "Top 50 Instructors." Pia is the former Head Coach of the Swedish National Golf Teams and Solheim Cup Captain.

The Kinetic Golf Academy:
In these days of high-tech golf instruction offered by some of the greatest names in professional golf, the Kinetic Golf Academy is somewhat unusual. Designed to offer a unique instructional experience, the Academy “provides the ultimate learning experience for golfers ranging from beginner levels to those who are already successful on the PGA and LPGA tours.” The Academy lies its the ability to integrate an objective teaching system with the latest in wireless motion analysis technology thus enabling the Academy's professional staff to diagnose swing inefficiencies four times faster than they could using conventional video based lessons: in other words, they are quickly able to improve your swing from the ground up.

The Spa:
No southwestern resort would be complete without a world-class spa, and the Legacy is no exception. From the classic Swedish and Deep Tissue Massages to the more exotic treatments that involve the use of kelp, mud and herbs, the range of offerings is extensive - they even offer something for the pregnant mom-to-be - and so, if you are like me and enjoy a relaxing hour or two of stress relief, you’re sure to find something here to make your golf getaway that little bit more memorable.

Dining:
Finally, at the end of the day, one of the most important considerations we have where and what to eat. If you’re like me, you won’t want to leave the resort, which means the dining needs be exceptional. The Legacy’s Trail's End Bar and Grill is a "must taste experience" where the emphasis is on comfort and traditional American tastes. You can enjoy a great selection of traditional American favorites, prepared with simple and classic ingredients. All of the menus have a wide variety of "comfort foods" to make you feel at home, where the dining room table is the foundation of American cuisine. Breakfast is of the traditional egg and bacon variety, with a few extra goodies thrown in. The lunch menu offers the usual salads and sandwiches along with an array of our Chef's specialties. The dinner menu features food designed to make you feel at home: pasta dishes, seafood, chicken, steak and some truly decadent desserts.
